About WSMC

Western Sierra Medical Clinic (WSMC) provides comprehensive health care services for over 17,000 patients in Nevada, Sierra, and Yuba Counties. As a Federally Qualifed Health Center, WSMC works to improve the lives of its patients, and offers .
With sites in Downieville, Grass Valley, and a mobile clinic, WSMC is always looking for new ways to increase its presence in the communities it serves and improve the lives of our patients through quality comprehensive health care services. WSMC does not deny services to patients due to their inability to pay and offers sliding fee discounts to patients that qualify. We provide high quality primary medical care and other services that add to the overall well-being of our patients.
At our Downieville location emergency services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In the frontier setting of Downieville, WSMC is able to offer patients a variety of services including dental, behavioral health, dietician consultations, telemedicine, home health visits, and podiatry. This location sponsors a food bank that serves communities in western Sierra County.
At our location in Grass Valley, Miners Family Health Center, we continually expand our services to meet the needs of the community, while forming community partnerships. We have added behavioral health services that include an LCSW, psychologist, and psychiatrist. Other needs we have fulfilled in the community include teen clinic services, bereavement support classes, dietician consultations, pediatric dental including sedation, maternal and adult dental. We are a leader in our community for the immunization of children. We have done this by adding Saturday immunization clinics, marketing in the community to increase awareness, and a health immunization fair.
Our mobile clinic reaches remote communities, such as, Alleghany, Pike, and Camptonville, that would otherwise have a hardship in accessing health care. We are looking to add locations so that the mobile clinic can be of even greater service to our community.
WSMC uses state of the art technology to deliver services. WSMC has an advanced electronic medical record and is in the process of adding a patient portal that would allow patients to have access via the internet. We are expanding our telemedicine program and adding E-Eligibility for CMSP and Medi-Cal.
WSMC in Downieville started in 1975 by a group of community volunteers. Located in the middle of the Tahoe National Forest, WSMC has served the residents and visitors of Sierra County for over 35 years. In 2007, WSMC became a funded Federally Qualified Health Center. In August 2008, WSMC added a Community Mobile Clinic to provide services in eastern Yuba and western Sierra County. January 1, 2010 WSMC and Miners Family Health Center located in Grass Valley joined together to become a single corporation under the direction of Scott McFarland, Chief Executive Officer. The Health Center in Grass Valley is now called Miners Family Health Center. Both organizations have a rich history of community involvement and a goal of serving the uninsured and underinsured.
